OCTOPUS - Wood Sculpture
OCTOPUS - Wood Sculpture
Octopus sculpture crafted from found wood Abigail has gathered on her wanderings.
Most of the wood pieces used to create this sculpture were collected in the UK along the Devonshire coastline in early 2024.
Each piece of wood has been selected for it’s unique qualities of shape, texture or markings, carrying with it a feeling of the animal it is destined to become.
The starting place for these pieces isn’t the idea to create a specific animal, but a careful assessing of the wood collection and as pieces are selected to work with, the animal characters begin to reveal themselves.

Abigail works mostly with a range of hand tools in her London studio to create each piece.
It's form has been assembled from several pieces of wood. The surface of the Octopus has been carved, burnt, drilled into and filled with contrasting wood, drawn on, gouged and painted with watered down bluey-purple emulsion paint. Each individual sucker on it's tentacles has been cut, sanded, glued into a drilled hole and lightly burned with a blow torch to desired effect.
It comes on a display stand (it cannot stand alone) with a solid wood base reclaimed from a felled London tree. A painted steel rod supports the Octopus so it appears suspended - floating in space.
Created for display only, it is a fragile piece to be handled with care. It is not a toy.
Each 'Wood Sculpture' is an original, unique artwork - you will receive the piece shown.
Measures approx (including display stand): 48cm H, 41cm W, 20cm D.
